About the RC Castro Jr Scholarship

Masterworx Community Theater is pleased to announce a new scholarship in memory of Roque Carlos Castro Jr, the late father of Michelle Velastegui. In supporting the educational plans of a young creative, Masterworx honors Mr. Castro’s love of music, dance, laughter, and community.

Beginning in the spring of 2025, the RC Castro Jr Scholarship will annually award funds to a high school senior seeking to further their education at the college or university level, or professional development through coursework/lessons, either private or group. The cash award may be applied toward tuition, room and board, books, or private or group courses or lessons.

Applications for the 2026 award will open on March 15, 2026 and must be submitted by April 15, 2026. All applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the two founders of Masterworx, Michelle Velastegui and Denise Thomas, and a representative from the Board of Directors. Selected candidates will then be invited to join the committee for an interview.
